All who are 67 years of age or older have a right to a government-sponsored pension. One must apply for the pension, however, with the Social Services Office under the Ministry of Social Affairs. The Social Services Office receives notification from the National Resident Registry as to who will reach the age of 67 and sends out an application directly to the retiree.
The pension is comprised of a base amount plus a supplement. The base amount is independent of other income, while the amount of the supplement is balanced against the other income received by the retiree. In order to receive a full pension, the retiree must have lived in the Danish Kingdom for at least 40 years.
Further information on the government-sponsored pension is available on the website of the Social Service Office.
