|Moving to Tórshavn Municipality
If you want to move to the Municipality, please contact Snarskivan, and ask for their assistance to register with the Municipal Resident Registery. If you have a work and residency permit, please bring your passport with you to show the staff in the Snarskivan that all your paperwork is in order.
The Municipal Resident Registry in Snarskivan will handle your registration with the National Resident Registry. If you have lived in the Faroes before, you will be issued the same “P-tal” or personal number as before. Otherwise, the National Resident Registry will issue a new number and notify the tax administration (TAKS) and the local Health Insurance Board.
General procedures in connection with moving to or from Tórshavn Municipality:
• Moving within the Municipality: Individuals who move within Tórshavn Municipality should notify the National Resident Registry in Snarskivan.
• Moving from other Nordic countries to Tórshavn Municipality: If you move from another Nordic country to the Municipality, you must complete the appropriate transfer documentation in Snarskivan.
• Moving from Tórshavn Municipality to another Nordic country: If you move from the Municipality to another Nordic country, please contact the municipality where you will be living.
• Moving from a country other than a Nordic country to Tórshavn Municipality: If you move from a country outside the Nordic region to the Municipality, you must complete the necessary transfer documentation in Snarskivan.
Moving from Tórshavn Municipality to another country other than a Nordic country: If you move from the Municipality to a country outside of the Nordic region, you must notify the National Resident Registry in the Snarskivan.
