If you are moving to the municipality from abroad, you must arrive personally in the Tórshavn Citizen Service Centre (Snarskivan) within five days to report your entry into the Faroe Islands and register in the Faroese National Civil Register (Fólkayvirlitið).

You must also arrive personally at the Tórshavn Citizen Service Centre (Snarskivan) if you move back to the Faroe Islands after a longer stay abroad.

Rules and terms for moving to the Faroe Islands
If you are a Nordic citizen

If you are a citizen from Finland, Åland, Sweden, Norway, or Iceland, and you move to the Faroe Islands for longer than six months, you must register at your local municipality within five days of moving.

If you are moving to Tórshavn Municipality, you must show up personally at the Tórshavn Citizen Service Centre (Snarskivan).

If you are not a Danish or Nordic citizen

If you are not a Danish or Nordic citizen, and you move to the Faroe Islands from a non-Nordic country, you must register at your local municipality within five days of moving or within five days after receiving your Residence Permit and Work Permit.

If you are moving to Tórshavn Municipality, you must show up personally at the Tórshavn Citizen Service Centre (Snarskivan).

Bring your passport and your Residence Permit.

If your family composition has changed upon your return to the Faroe Islands

If you move back to the Faroe Islands after having been married or divorced, or had children while living abroad, you need to bring your marriage certificate, divorce certificate or birth certificate for each child when you re-register with Tórshavn Municipality.
